Goal Setting and Accountability Update
September 24th, 2007 by Liz Fuller
Well, it’s time for an accountability check. Last Monday I made a list of goals to accomplish in the coming week. At the time, considering my schedule, I thought they were reasonable. But as often happens, life got in the way.
I am proud to say I did accomplish my highest priority goal - getting my blog moved to its permanent site.
However, I slipped on most of the other goals. I am carrying them over for this week and adding another - getting an opt-in option on my website so readers can sign up for my newsletter. Look for it this coming week!
And the rest of my goals from last week (and now for this week) are as follows:
- write and publish ten ezine articles
- write interview questions for all the interviews I’ve scheduled
- organize my network contacts into a database
- and of course, write daily blog posts and meet with my clients
So, how do I measure the week? Was it a failure because I didn’t get everything done?
I think that setting the goals in the first place made me more focused on my highest priority. Being accountable to all of you also made me at least make as much progress as I did - never underestimate the embarrassment factor in self-motivation.
The items that got in my way were largely networking opportunities that aligned with my primary goal so they were principle based decisions that advanced my purposes.
All in all, I think I did pretty well in progressing my goals. The real key is that I knew my priorities and vision so I could respond to opportunities appropriately.
How about you? How did you do on your goals this week? Please let me know and feel free to set goals for the coming week in the comment section below - we can check in again next Monday!

What needs to be stressed in goal setting is the fact that merely setting and writing goals is not sufficient.
Like every other formula for success, the importance of passion must not be underestimated.
Passion can be any number of factors- be living a live free of financial worries,or just to challenge yourself that you have the ability to succeed-which means overcoming negative thoughts most of all.

Very good point Kuldip!
The first step in goal setting should be ensuring that the short-term goals align with our ultimate destination and serve our purpose.
If we don’t know where we are going, we are basically running on a treadmill, working really hard, feeling like we are making progress but not actually getting anywhere.
